Wow, that is a radical thought, Bruce!? I have never heard of any systematic training for clerks, which is why I wrote the little book called Where Should I Stand???I guess you are not asked to be clerk until?your Meeting thinks you have been around long enough to have learned by osmosis.
Years after I became clerk, I did attend a?very useful seminar on the subject at Ben Lomond Quaker Center.
I wonder whether other monthly Meeting clerks have been given training opportunities.

Which is also why we may have such badly clerked meetings sometimes.

Dear Bruce et al, 

Our new clerk is going to Pendle Hill to attend its Clerking Workshop (http://www.pendlehill.org/programs/fall_2008_course_workshop_retreat_descriptions.php#1114).? Luckily, he has his own funds for paying for it, as our meeting is small and wouldn't be able to provide much more than a small subsidy.? However, we did minute the Meeting's request that he attend, which evidently allows him to deduct the cost of the workshop from his taxes!?? FGC usually has a clerking workshop at the Annual Gathering as well.?
